1. Use

Special tool PL-KU40-50 for testing the degree of wear of:

Bolt couplings with coupling pin diameter 40 (DIN 74051)
Bolt couplings with coupling pin diameter 50 (DIN 74052 und ECE R55)

2. Inspection of different hitch devices:

2.1 Check of coupling pins: (see Figure 2)

Find out the nominal dimension of the coupling bolt offered by the type plate and the instruction guide of the trailer hitch.
Push the corresponding measuring range of the gauge (marked „coupling 40“ or „coupling 50“) above the coupling pin. While doing this the coupling pin needs to be measured at its thinnest point. Normally this is the area, which touches the towing eye. It is important to measure the coupling pin in driving direction. Therefore the coupling pin needs to be demounted as the circumstances require.
The test piece has reached the technical wear limit when it is completely immersed in the gauge (see Figure 2).

3. Inspection/Maintenance of special tool:

With daily use, it is recommended to check the individual test areas of Walterscheid special tool once a year according to the dimensions in figure 3 with appropriate measuring equipment. Depending on the actual number of uses, this period can be extended to 60 months. Deviations of more than 0,1mm necessitate a replacement of special tool.

The gauge must be cleaned after use with standard cleaning agents. Use only in clean and undamaged condition. Unauthorized modifications on special tool are not permitted.

Safety instructions

Important:

To avoid injury, protective gloves, safety glasses and safety shoes must be worn during all dismantling/ assembly actions described in this chapter.

Environment:

Lubricants can enter the environment. Environmental pollution: Collect, store and correctly dispose of lubricants in suitable containers.

Warning:

The regulations of the employers’ liability insurance association must be observed when coupling and uncoupling.
No one may stand between the vehicles. The coupling may only be operated in locked condition. When coupling and uncoupling, the drawbar must be as horizontal as possible relative to the coupling.

The user is obliged to always operate the Connecting device in perfect condition and to forbid its use by unauthorised persons. The loads indicated on the type plate may not be exceeded. Unauthorised conversion or modification of the coupling head is not permitted.

Caution:

Never uncouple when the trailer is pulling or pushing. Use of force on the hand lever can destroy the mechanism.

Important:

Use only original Walterscheid spares when replacing parts. If the vehicle owner does not have the appropriate skilled workers and the necessary technical equipment, the replacement may only be performed by a specialist workshop.

The checks must be carried out at the appropriate intervals in order to prevent damage to the coupling.

Note:

The pertinent regulations (e.g. Accident Prevention Regulations for Vehicles) and the attachment guidelines of the vehicle manufacturers must be observed when installing the coupling! The coupling must be attached to the vehicle in accordance with the requirements in Appendix VII of Directive 94/20 / EC (see Appendix I, Section 5.10).
